
This was a fun still life. Here is the setup in my studio as I was painting. Notice that there is a Fraser Leonard painting in the background.

And the final painting. I like what happens where Fraser's painting shows through the wine bottles.

I know there is a tendency in my work for warm colors. So as an exercise, I set up this still life with the intention of making it a "cool" painting, using blues, blue greys, & violets (a cool color palette). I fought it the whole way but the pears were my way out. They were the only warm elements in the composition so I had to balance them with a few other warm touches. That seemed to work and now I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

I thought this was one of my successes. That was until I ruined it by putting retouch varnish on it too soon. I'm so upset with myself. It may be salvageable but as yet I can't deal with it.
