Figure Painter and Night Owl

Painting is her full time job and passion. This artist is a night owl, working into the night and early morning, brushing, dripping and flinging paint onto canvas. Her work is focused on the figure. She currently has two active series that she's working on.
The first series is from sessions with live models. She has been doing figure drawing and painting with a group of fellow artists for almost seven years, using local professional models. These sessions keep her on her artistic toes because some nights, it can be quite humbling.
Her other series features people in everyday life. She paints waiters, singers, etc. But mostly she paints people who are waiting. Of course when people are waiting, they’re usually still, allowing her time for a quick pencil drawing in a sketchbook. She thinks of how most of us live in “hurry & wait” mode,  noting that while we wait is when a lot of life happens: in the conversations we have, it’s when we worry, it’s when we make decisions; in waiting rooms, waiting for important, maybe life changing news... in a restaurant, a serious moment in a relationship...the scenarios are endless. She observes, and sketches. Later, she composes her version of the event on canvas, painting the figures in place so that others can write their own scripts for the scene.
In all of her work, gutsy design, color and brushwork dominates, and the love of paint is obvious. She describes her style as “contemporary realism”.

Her work can currently be seen at three St. Louis area venues:
